Foodbank Adviser
What is your role at Citizens Advice LeicesterShire?
Foodbank Adviser
What do you enjoy about giving advice at CitAL?
I love meeting all different types of people and hearing their issues and being able to assist them with practical solutions to a problem, or in a lot of cases just empowering them with information that gives them the confidence to challenge things that they factually know is unjust or not right. It’s an opportunity to brighten someone’s day even when sometimes for our clients things seem extremely beak. It also lets people know that they are not alone, unusual, or isolated with their problems.
What did you do prior to joining CitAL?
Experience that has been most valuable has been that gained working in mental health as a Nursing Assistant, which has given me listening and communication skills when working with some vulnerable and challenging people. Working as an HR and Employment Law Consultant. Working in all kinds of settings both public services and private business settings which has honed my ability to be pragmatic.
Why do you work/ volunteer at CitAL?
I enjoy the flexibility of the working hours and the difference in the Food Bank Adviser role which brings me into contact with all sorts or issues life is never dull.
Is there anything you’ve done while volunteering / working with us that you’re particularly proud of?
I’ve only been here a short time but I am proud of the fact that I am still learning, nothing is unachievable as there is lots of support but that I know I have made a difference because the feed back has been great so far from the clients and the partners involved in this project.
