We help people like Anya everyday.

Anya* is single and living in private rented accommodation. She recently left her nursing job due to ill health.

Anya is claiming Universal Credit, however her income information was incorrect so the amount she was receiving was more than £500 per month lower than her entitlement. She was in the process of correcting the mistake, however was starting to feel overwhelmed by the cost of food and energy bills, while also struggling to pay off debts. The situation was impacting on her mental health.

Citizens Advice LeicesterShire’s adviser explored the client’s situation and identified that Anya may also be eligible for PIP, Council Tax Reduction and a Household Support Fund grant.

Anya was given vouchers for food and fuel, ensuring that her immediate needs were met. She was also awarded £34 per week in Council Tax Reduction. She has made an application for PIP and has now resolved the issue with her Universal Credit, increasing her monthly income. She continues to receive support with debt, which will stabilise her situation in the longer term. Addressing these issues has contributed to her feeling less stress and anxiety.
