CitAL wants to recruit a Community Engagement Officer to run a project in Leicester City with the dual aims of supporting individual garment industry workers to access the information and training they need to achieve the pay and employment conditions they are entitled to; and gathering data and evidence to support the work of Citizens Advice and that of other agencies including Leicester City Council’s Textile Compliance Task Force, Hope for Justice, Slave Free Alliance etc., to influence policy and legal change within the garment industry as a whole.
We are seeking a talented multilinguist (fluent in English and at least two South-Asian languages – Gujarati and Urdu preferred) to engage with employers and workers that have been identified as being at risk of workplace malpractice.
- You will build and maintain positive working relationships with the local community and employers, whilst inspiring and empowering individuals to take opportunities to improve their employability in the UK.
- Working with ‘hard to reach’ communities to overcome barriers, which have prevented them from accessing services in the past, you will raise awareness of employee rights and entitlements and encourage engagement with existing advice and support provision.
- The data you gather (and share appropriately with stakeholders and partners) will inform policy and law around garment manufacture and retail.
