Volunteer Foodbank Assessor & Advisor Assistant

Minimum time commitment per week

7 hours  

Training commitment

7 hrs per week initial training, over a 3 month period, (self study, virtual workshops, webinars and observations)
A commitment to completing your induction and ongoing training.
Able to travel to Hinckley or Lutterworth foodbanks 

People Commitment

A passion for helping others and treating people with dignity and respect.

Location 

This will be a mainly face to face role, covering various foodbanks in Hinckley and Lutterworth, depending on your location. 

(These are to be discussed at interview)

Purpose of the Role

We’re looking for a volunteer to play a key role in supporting foodbank advisers when they are working with clients. This is a great opportunity to give back to your local community, being a friendly and reliable point of contact, working closely with the Office staff and other volunteers. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting initial assessments to establish the level of help client need
  • Working through the task list, calling clients who need follow up appointments 
  • Building, resourcing and maintaining a robust contact catalogue of local support and services available in each office area. 
  • Call back to client to see if they have been awarded benefits they have claimed and capturing the outcomes 
  • Form filling (e.g. Blue badge, Attendance Allowance, Warm Home discounts)
  • General signposting 
  • Building networks for support and engagement with other support services to make assisting clients easier and smoother

  • Flexible approach with the ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Organised and comfortable using digital systems for recording and tracking information

Training for this role 

Training is made up of 8-9  workshops (3 hours each), plus 4-5 hours self study per week.
